The Open Heart Street Event Held in Belgrade

The traditional New Year's event "Open Heart Street" was opened with a ceremony in Svetogorska Street in Belgrade on Jan. 1 at noon, under the slogan "My Belgrade has Heart". The assembled Belgraders and their guests were entertained by musicians, street performers, jugglers and actors.

Belgrade Mayor Zoran Radojicic welcomed the gathering, wishing everyone good health and happiness in 2019 and to Belgraders for their city to develop in accordance with their wishes.

He said the event, that has been held traditionally in central Belgrade for years now, showed how humane Belgraders were, how much solidarity and open heartedness they had, and how important family and traditions were.

Radojicic urged everyone to buy the clown noses and in that way support the project "Doctors Clowns", which is aimed at helping children endure their stay in hospitals.

The project "Doctors Clowns" was launched by the organization "The Bridge of Life" in 2003, and has been officially approved and recommended by the Serbian Health Ministry.

This year, a guest at the event is the City of Nis, which took the role of a "visiting host" by presenting its own cultural and culinary characteristics to Belgraders and tourists.

"Open Heart Street", organized by the Belgrade City Assembly, the Tourism Organization of Belgrade and the Stari Grad municipality, has been on the official calendar of most significant Belgrade events since 1988, and has an average annual attendance of more than 100,000.
